The Riviera Maya was originally called the “Cancun-Tulum corridor,” but in 1999, it was renamed as the Riviera Maya located south of Cancun, Mexico. It straddles the coastal Federal Highway 307, along the Caribbean coastline of the state of Quintana Roo.

The Riviera Maya is famous for its large scale all-inclusive resorts and a historical tourism base of smaller boutique hotels as well as the many fine-dining restaurants available near the beaches.

Archeological sites are the most visited locations, such as Tulum on the coast as well as Chichen Itza, and Coba located some distance inland.

The mean annual temperature is 24-25 °C (75-77 °F). The climate is dominated by a rainy season from May through November. Within the dry season, there is a period dominated by northerly winds, called El Norte, which usually occurs in January and February.

The Fairmont Mayakoba hotel, part of the Mayakoba luxury resort community, is situated in the heart of the Riviera Maya and is approximately 42 miles or 68 km south of Cancun.

All Willow Stream Spas are sanctuaries inside Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, in the world’s most beautiful places. The environment at each reflects its surroundings – the desert, the mountains, or the sea. Our experiences are authentic – they work. Others are designed for specific results like stress relief, diminishing the appearance of fine lines, or being connected to your favorite interests like golf, skiing, or spending time outdoors. Some are just pure pampering. Whatever the result, we make sure all of our experiences feel wonderful.

Willow Stream’s philosophy is inspired by five elements – air, water, earth, wood, and fire – whose characteristics are incorporated into the treatments. Each piece is vital to basic human survival; however, it balances all five elements necessary for optimum well-being, health, and energy. Air represents breath and lungs; water is the bloodstream; the earth is the physical being- the body itself- wood is fuel, meaning nourishment and stimulation of all senses. Fire is heat and passion, a body’s surplus energy.

Providing a balance of all the elements is crucial to the concept of self-directed wellness. At Willow Stream, this balance is enhanced through spa treatments influenced by the local culture, wisdom, and landscape, adhering to a consistent overarching philosophy.

The 37,000-square-foot Willow Stream Spa at Fairmont Mayakoba features 20 treatment rooms, including a unique couple’s suite, two mineral pools, and steam rooms. The spa’s carefully crafted menu of services includes distinctive treatments, including indigenous ingredients and ancient native traditions. Willow Stream Spa also offers a full-service Fitness Center and Beauty Salon.
