What is an Alebrije?

Alebrijes are colorful, fantastical creatures that blend features of real and mythical animals. First created by Mexican artist Pedro Linares in the 1930s, these vibrant sculptures often represent spirit animals or “nahuales” in Mexican culture. With their wild shapes, bright colors, and intricate patterns, alebrijes are now a beloved symbol of Mexican folk art and creativity.
