Celebrate Día del Niño (day of the child) 2023 in Mexico
While for many children, every day is a celebration, April 30th in Mexico is extra special. ‘Kids Day’, known as El Día del Niño, is a tradition that began in Mexico in 1925. Kids Day in Mexico celebrates children that are a vital part of Mexican society. It highlights the importance of appreciating and loving children and supporting their continued safety and well-being. In 1997 a group of U.S. educators and literary advocates likened this effort to recognize children by using the old adage “From tiny acorns mighty trees grow”. Before long, the U.S. joined many Latin American countries in this annual celebration of children.
In Mexico, El Día del Niño is when teachers usually put studying aside, and instead, they participate in games and creative activities such as art workshops, storytelling, and face painting. Kids are encouraged to bring their favorite snacks to school and share them with their classmates. Many parents leave work early on this day to spend time with their children. They focus on their kids by visiting local amusement parks and water parks, attending sporting events, shopping, or visiting museums and zoos. Children in Mexico look forward to this day with great anticipation, as it is one of the most memorable and happiest days of the year for kids.
