Mayakoba Match Play presented by UNIFIN

If you are a Mexican golfer and would like to participate in the 15th annual PGA Tour in Mayakoba, today is your lucky day! Mayakoba, UNIFIN and the organizers of the World Wide Technology Championship at Mayakoba; launched an initiative called Mayakoba Match Play presented by UNIFIN.

The World Wide Technology Championship at Mayakoba is the first PGA event to be played outside of the United States and Canada, and over the past 15 years 132 professional golfers have featured competing at the El Camaleón Golf Course, designed by Greg Norman in the Riviera Maya. This year, the 15th edition will be held from November 4 to 7.

Now this new initiative will be added to the already successful “Road to Mayakoba” program, which will grant a direct pass to the annual PGA TOUR tournament in Mayakoba to a Mexican golfer in addition to $15,000 USD to be distributed among the four semifinalists.

There will be 5 winners from each tournament in the different venues that will qualify for the final of the Mayakoba Match Play presented by UNIFIN that will take place on October 3 and 4, 2021. The 16th participant will be the highest ranked Mexican golfer in the Official World Ranking of Golf on September 27, 2021. The winner of the Mayakoba Match Play presented by UNIFIN will receive an exemption to compete against the best golfers on the PGA TOUR at the World Wide Technology Championship at Mayakoba.

The host cities and dates for the preliminary stage will be:

· Monday, August 23, 2021 – Los Encinos Golf Club, Toluca, State of Mexico.

· Monday, August 30, 2021 – Club Campestre Monterrey, Monterrey, Nuevo León.

· Monday, September 27, 2021 – PGA Riviera Maya Golf Club, Akumal, Quintana Roo.

In order to participate, it is important to register as soon as possible since registrations will be limited to 72 professional or amateur players with a maximum handicap of 2.0.

Cristian Israel Romero Sánchez took medalist honors by shooting 5-below-par 67.

Jorge Villar, Ángel Morales Hernández, Luis Felipe Torres and Roberto Rodríguez Cacho also qualified.

2nd Stage

Club Campestre Monterrey


Adrián Rodríguez from Saltillo, Coahuila, and Luis Garza, from León, Guanajuato, shot 6-BELOW-par 66 taking first place in this preliminary stage.

Armando Favela from Tijuana, Baja California also qualified with a score of 5-BELOW-par 67, while Raúl Pereda from Córdoba, Veracruz, shot 4-BELOW-par 68 and Diego Córdova from León, Guanajuato, qualified with 69 strokes ( -3).
