Until 2019 almost 7,000 guests and workers have accompanied us to release 25,079 sea turtles of the four species born in the Mayakoba turtle camp. Located near Fairmont’s beach restaurant, Brisas, guests can learn more and participate in this program.
Melipona Bees
Fairmont Mayakoba cultivates endemic “Melipona” bees, which produce a type of honey that’s known for its medicinal purposes. The bees are native to the Yucatan and are stingless. In addition to incorporating the honey bee in recipes, it is also used in treatments at the Willow Stream Spa.

Coral Reef Restoration Program
Guests can sail away in a guided catamaran on a fascinating adventure of discovery through a private snorkeling tour of the resort’s coral nursery. Guests can get a behind-the-scenes look at how Fairmont Mayakoba grows and harvests precious Acropora Palmata coral to be transplanted into the Mesoamerican Reef second-largest in the world.
Edible Insect Degustation
Edible insect degustation goes back to Mexico’s indigenous gastronomy, which has become a delicacy. Under the direction of Chef Fernando Canales at Fairmont’s La Laguna restaurant, the insects are prepared and seasoned using simple yet flavorful herbs accompanied by Mexican antojitos. Guests can enjoy dried grasshoppers, maguey worms, ant eggs, crayfish, escamoles (a larva from the chicatana ant), and more, all paired with Mexico’s legendary agave-based liquor, mescal, and tequila.
And while the Mexican Caribbean awaits, ready to welcome guests back, at Fairmont Mayakoba, we have launched our new and exciting Stay Close offer, where every second night is on us!
